My Beginnings

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 21, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

In my readings about writing, I came across several good points about how the beginning of your book is often the most important part–at least, if you intend to grab the attention of an editor, publisher or agent. I wondered what all my beginnings really looked like…and so I gathered them here for kicks. Would these beginnings make you, as a reader, want to keep reading? I welcome all comments. My beginnings…. The openings (first sentences/paragraphs) of my books. “Sully’s, on South Prospect, was the quintessential biker-bar, complete with hefty, leather-clad Harley worshippers, and stringy-haired heroin-addicted women who made the … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"When I am alone, my table manners are rather piggish, but i suppose that's because I don't eat at a table, I eat at my desk. Which could be considered a table, except we tend to define things by their function, and this particular surface is a desk, so perhaps piggish is unfair."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

Favorite Quotes

When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they discovered that ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 billion to develop a pen that could write in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface, and at temperatures from below freezing to 300 C. The Russians used a pencil. ~ [Editor's note: while humorous, this is actually inaccurate. See http://mentalfloss.com/article/13103/russians-didnt-just-use-pencils-space]

Just a casual reminder that in 1869 it was decided to have 9 Supreme Court justices because there were 9 Circuit Courts.

Now there are 13 Circuit Courts. What are we waiting for?
