My Beginnings

Posted on June 21, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

In my readings about writing, I came across several good points about how the beginning of your book is often the most important part–at least, if you intend to grab the attention of an editor, publisher or agent. I wondered what all my beginnings really looked like…and so I gathered them here for kicks. Would these beginnings make you, as a reader, want to keep reading? I welcome all comments. My beginnings…. The openings (first sentences/paragraphs) of my books. “Sully’s, on South Prospect, was the quintessential biker-bar, complete with hefty, leather-clad Harley worshippers, and stringy-haired heroin-addicted women who made the … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"I've never seen Salisbury steak on a restaurant menu. It's only in frozen dinners. Is there something we should know about that? What IS Salisbury steak anyway? And where do they hunt or harvest the salisburies?"

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

Since they work for the government, they should be forced to, or be relieved of duty.

Exploding Space Pillow Singh, MD 🌊@labyrinthweaver

Nearly 40% of US Marines are declining Covid-19 vaccinations. Unfortunate that those who protect us refuse to protect themselves. And I am sure they are mostly men.

Agreed. And while we're at it, can we stop saying "Sex with a minor" and instead state this accurately as Statutory Rape?

Rabbi Michael Adam Latz #BlackLivesMatter@RavMABAY

Look folks-I get the Matt Gaetz jokes about using Venmo to buy minor purchases seem clever. But they aren’t. He’s charged with sex trafficking CHILDREN. That’s a crime-not a joke. Don’t minimize these horrific accusations-Our kids deserve better from all of us.

Looks like Brett Kavanaugh’s hideous name is trending again, so it’s that time to ask: who paid all of pervert Kavanaugh’s debts thus purchasing themselves a SCOTUS seat?

When I announced I was running for Governor of Virginia, people said they weren’t ready for a Black woman Governor. They told me to wait my turn. But I disagree. I think Virginia is ready. I think America is ready. If you’re ready too, please retweet this far and wide.

I urge everyone to dispose of their used face masks properly and responsibly. Never discard them on the street. When possible, cut the strings on the masks. Wild birds and other animals are getting entangled in discarded masks, and many have died as a result.
