I’m Mercury’s Bitch What's a scientifically minded person to do?

Posted on August 17, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 17, 2017

Last night, I spent three solid hours just trying to play a game to relax. But the game wouldn’t download. then it would download but wouldn’t work. Then my screen would jiggle and shake and look like nuclear radiation was nearby. Then every conceivable blockade would happen, to keep me from getting to that relaxing gameplay. I’ve never given astrological I said, “Honey? Is Mercury in retrograde?I’ve never given astrological “Yes, actually.” “I’ll be damned.” I’ve never given astrological powers much credence. It’s hard for me to imagine how the constellations and the heavenly bodies have any bearing on how … Continue reading →

Full-Contact Leaf-Blowing

Posted on December 14, 2015 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 5, 2017

Sore today. Took a fall while leaf-blowing on the back patio yesterday. My foot slid out of my nurse’s clog, (yes I know, not outside yard-working shoes, but hey, they’re insanely comfortable) and I bent my ankle over, then fell, landing on my opposite knee, and both hands on the patio stones. The leaf blower landed in the pond. My knee, my foot/ankle, both wrists and even my left shoulder joint (a recurring issue) were screwed. (It’s funny, how something like that happens so fast, you sort of wake up on the ground and have to use your memory to … Continue reading →

Deerly Beloved

Posted on July 25, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 24, 2012

Things can change in a nano-second. One minute, you’re moving along in your life, perhaps even having a great day and feeling hopeful, and the next, you are reminded of how precarious life can be. Last night Kelly and I had one of those moments. If anything had been slightly different, it’s possible we would not be alive. We had spent the entire weekend enjoying various activities and meals and socializing with friends. We were on our way back from a fly-fishing excursion in Deckers, and moving through the pitch blackness of Highway 85, between Sedalia and Highlands Ranch, near … Continue reading →

Cherryot Gymnastics

Posted on August 30, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 30, 2009

Storage trip update from Saturday. So, I’m standing on top of my Cherryot, 1 applying bungees to things I wish I didn’t own, and I’m being careful to step only on the reinforced areas of the roof, and avoid the sunroof entirely, when my foot slipped. Now, I was wearing my Sketchers which are really comfortable to take my nightly walks in. But I discovered, rudely, that they don’t have um…much…traction. At least not on top of the Cherryot. So in that surreal, slow-motion movie moment kind of way, I began to fall, feet first, sliding down the side…not so … Continue reading →

Slippity Doo Dah

Posted on June 4, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 4, 2009

(or, “I Don’t Love my OTHER Shoes”) I’ve always known that certain footwear was dangerous. The most common culprit in my mind is the high heel-pump-stiletto family of shoes. Aside from the usual hazard of balancing on something so precarious as a shoe with a peg under it (although Pirate-amputees seemed to have mastered it), or in the case of a stiletto, (essentially walking on a PENCIL), there is a profound discomfort to be had in the awkward position of the foot, and the disfiguration that takes place as a woman gets older while partaking of this footwear. Have you … Continue reading →

Cause for ConCERN?

Posted on March 28, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

Have you heard about our potential annihilation? France is building a “doomsday machine” according to Internet Whistle-blowers. For an overview of these fears, refer to Misunderstood Universe website. CERN, or European Center for Nuclear Research (which makes no sense, unless the name was Center, European, of Research, Nuclear…but whatever) is the home of the most powerful particle accelerator…with the ability to create (though minuscule) black holes. The fearful public say that a created black hole could gravitate to center of the earth, and swallow us up in a matter of years. There are always questionable sources for information. Two, perhaps … Continue reading →

Spotted Eagle Ray Soars Again

Posted on March 22, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

A 55 year old Michigan woman, Judy Kay Zagorski, died of “blunt force craniocerebral trauma” when a Spotted Eagle Ray swooped out of the water and hit her in the head. Not difficult to imagine, when you realize that this animal was a 75-80 pound missile, with a 6 foot wingspan. Until this story, I had not even heard of a Spotted Eagle StingRay. But as freak accidents go, this was one of the most freaky. It’s not the first time, either. Eighty-one year old James Bertakis survived an almost identical confrontation in October of 2006, when a Spotted Eagle … Continue reading →
