another bitch of a ditch

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 14, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 14, 2020

Change is good, they said. I believe that’s true, most days. Especially since I feel I’ve been in a bitch of a ditch for the last 7 years. Well, not the same ditch. Different ditches. But ditches, just the same. Trenches, maybe. Foxholes. Caves? Anyway, I was ready for those changes we were finally able to make. My wife was about to get a small inheritance. Just enough to get us where we needed to go, if we were lucky. But the inheritance was delayed by various machinations, a few of them due to some abject assholery perpetrated by other … Continue reading →

Operation Homostead & Dooflingywhatsit

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 24, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 5, 2017

While I’m battling The Change of Life, we are also dealing with A Change of Life. Major changes on the horizon, all of which we have chosen for ourselves, which of course, makes it easier to weather. Our decision to make homesteading our goal, had to begin with all the preliminaries. Where? When? How? We know we want to settle in central Wisconsin, mostly because Melissa is from that area, and around Chicago, and her family is all there. She needs to be close to her grandmother, who is well into her 90’s and has had some health scares. But Melissa has … Continue reading →

Being a Delicate Organism

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 8, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 9, 2017

Highly Sensitive People are, as the moniker suggests, acutely aware of stimuli. Which is one reason I prefer the designation of Highly Aware Person. HAP. I’m a Hap. A Happy. Sounds much better to me than being called “Highly Sensitive” which carries with it a rather pejorative tint. But HSP is the most commonly used acronym in reference to us, and so I feel a bit obligated to use it. HSPs are often aware of sensory input that others miss. We are about 20% of the population, and this Sensory Processing Sensitivity is found in around 100 other species, as … Continue reading →

Diversify and Die

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 15, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 12, 2017

It’s so satisfying to sit at my desk and write to the sound of the ocean. Only this time, it’s not in my earbuds, but outside my window. The move to Dunedin placed me within walking distance of the beach, and the rhythmic breath of the waves at shore soothes me. The cool, robust breeze from the water sometimes spits through our windows like a fire hose, but it helps regulate the temperature in this upstairs master suite, high above almost all other houses on this hillside. It’s Summer here, though luckily for me, the fall and winter-loving, heat-intolerant moi, … Continue reading →

Stupid, Honorable, High-Road Seeking Fool

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 22, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliJuly 31, 2013

In a post from a few years ago (two posts, actually, under Going to Denver Because You’re Dead) I chronicled this transition of moving to Colorado to start a new life; again reinventing myself, with the hope of somehow finding my new place in this ever-changing, ever-challenging world.  I got rid of three-quarters of everything i owned, packed a U-Haul trailer behind my Cherryot, and off I went. A journey that lasted 30 hours on many days of little sleep. By the time I arrived in Denver, i was exhausted, lost, and had this sensation of being on another planet. … Continue reading →

Trauma Biscuit

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 2, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 5, 2011

Discovered that the private garage at my new place is very small. I felt I should maybe fold my side mirrors in, or rub Vaseline on the side of the Cherryot. I did get it pulled in without losing any paint, but hoped I would learn the skill that sardines know. Got everything inside, and discovered that Biscuit was nowhere to be found. I had been so careful. I even closed the garage door after I pulled in, carried her inside, and watched her dart into the apartment to hide, as usual. She has been so traumatized by this. But … Continue reading →

EXTENDED STRESS Hotel.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 2, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 5, 2011

My Cherryot was loaded to capacity, with the things I thought I’d need for two months, until an apartment became available.   At Extended Stay, I checked in with desk clerk–started to unload, and had to take several things up first (5 trips in elevator) before I noticed that there was a luggage cart in front with a tattooed guy leaning on it talking to another guy. “Oh a luggage cart!” I said. “I need that.” He said he only had a couple of things and rushed off to get his task done so I could have it. Meantime, I … Continue reading →

Vamoosing

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 29, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2013

Suspended my Netflix account. Still packing, desperately needing boxes. Downstairs, I pulled up everything in that storage room, which was the contents brought so far from storage when I actually thought I was going to be living here permanently, and her mother had finally moved, so I could do that. But only after we had ripped up the carpet down there and cleaned the unbelievable nastiness her mother lived in. bleach fumes, up and down stairs, aching body. I realized I would have to leave some things behind because it wouldn’t fit in my car or in storage, and I … Continue reading →

Fat Chance: Lament of a Transplanted Single

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 24, 2010 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

Before moving here, I never had to worry about what my friends thought of me. They knew me. Sometimes for 10 or 20 years–a few of them longer than that. And I was in relationships usually. Serial monogamist. So I didn’t have to worry about the impression I made, or if I was going to get laid anytime soon, or whether there was someone to confide in, play with…now, it’s all new. New State, new city, new people, and SINGLE, though not NEWLY SINGLE. Aside from a five month relationship, I’ve been single for what? 4 or 5 years? Add … Continue reading →

Stored Memories & Domestic Trivia

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 13, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 13, 2009

Yesterday, i went to Colorado Springs to start dealing with the storage i have there. It’s been percolating for 7 years. Odd, how so much of it i didn’t even recall having. Not that i remembered after i saw it–i mean, i saw it and still didn’t remember having it.Weirdness. The first surprise was when i opened the door. For those of you my age and older, you might think “Fibber McGee’s closet…” For the rest of you, I’m not sure what analogy you’d think of. But i needed a heavy duty shoehorn to start getting that stuff out. The … Continue reading →

Making Tracks

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 8, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

So my first First Fridays at Tracks. I went, faithfully following my GPS, and watching the little pulsing blue dot that was me on the map, as I veered repeatedly from the route I was supposed to take. I’ve discovered that if I just drive straight shots through town, I do better. The Highway is confusing and I end up taking the wrong lane and having to circle back and start over. Later I ran into Tina and her friend and spent a little time with them. Everyone wanted to steal my electronic cigarette. I must get some stock to … Continue reading →

Going to Denver Because You’re Dead (2)

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 4, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

In this second installment, I am on my way, the tone of the journey being set right away in Joplin, a mere 60 minutes from my starting place… Fri August 1 at 9:08am~ Jae:: in Joplin at loves truckstop. Having food and getting ice for my neck. It’s swelling. It’s tedious already driving 45mph I feel like I’m going to CO on horseback. Veep: but not bareback…..right? Jae: Yes, bareback, where all the trouble is to be found. First, i get back on the exit and take the wrong turn, winding up on an access road next to the interstate, … Continue reading →

Going to Denver Because You’re Dead (1)

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 4, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 4, 2009

Readers of this blog and those who know me personally are aware that recent events are not only pivotal in my life, but a necessary means of maintaining (or perhaps retrieving) my sanity. I knew that moving would be stressful–I added it up, and I’ve done it exactly 42 times. That makes me somewhat of an expert. Yet, expertise did not make a single one of these moves “pleasant.” It’s just not the nature of the beast. The only difference this time was that I wanted it more than any other move, planned for it longer, and sacrificed more to … Continue reading →

On the Heels of…

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 20, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

I had a marathon conversation last night with an ex from 10 years ago; and reconnected with her (Terra), via something she came across in my blog. The last half of the conversation created a feeling of great discomfort for me–both then, and this morning. My dreams were filled with people from the past, and anxiety tinted the start of my day. I was aware that in this phone conversation, I had slipped back into old habits and patterns of response and emotion. Our conversation was triggering me like a pack of firecrackers. She is, at the moment, inextricably … Continue reading →

News from the Front Lines

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 17, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 17, 2009

Four of my books are live on Amazon and four more will be, by next week, probably. Then another five will follow within a month. Then I can start working on the books I’ve had to put on the back burner to do all those final edits. I’ve also gotten out of my groove with the writing because of everything else that required my full attention. I’m anxious to get back to it. It’s such a part of me, that when I don’t write, I start to feel a little empty. Am on schedule for my relocation to Colorado. My … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"Someone asked me if I get along with girls. I'd better, since I'm a lesbian. What a dilemma that would be. Me--Okay get out of my bed and get dressed and go home. Her--What the fuck? What's wrong with you? We just had sex. Me--Yes, but I just don't get along with girls."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

The US Govt cannot steal a passport. Passports are the property of the government. (Read your passport's fine print. (Title 22 CFR Section 51.9)) Passports are issued providing us the privilege to travel. Pro tip: When you are a flight risk, you lose that privilege.

Maybe we need to set up some immigration system for those who wish to leave the southern states.

Dark53ShadesOfFruitKace🌈@FruitKace

Serious questions : What is the point of people on the left who happen to live in a “blue” state right now wanting southern states to secede? 1) What is ur point? 2) Why would u wanna throw away the majority of Black ppl & LGBTQ+ people? 3) How is this mindset any diff than GOP?
