A Bowl of Cherries Vs. Sucking Beetroot

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 12, 2014 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 10, 2020

Greetings, Precious Readers. As most of you know, I’ve had a rather eventful few years. Yes, i found the love of my life, and we are now happily engaged to be married. But getting to this point was a path strewn with rocks and blocks and sharp pointy things, and quicksand and befanged beasts, attacking from all sides. Okay, that might have been a tad melodramatic. But it’s been really challenging. It’s harder than it seems to leave everything behind and start from scratch in another country when you don’t even like to leave the house, and you’re also an … Continue reading →

Fiction Writes Me

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 10, 2014 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 8, 2017

Reading, especially fiction, has always been at least sometimes described as a means of escape. People read fiction to immerse themselves in someone else’s story. Perhaps because their own is too painful to contemplate. Perhaps because their own is too mundane. Whatever the reason for the escapist tendency of fiction readers, I hope there will always be plenty of them, otherwise, my profession will become a hobby. And I really am rooted in the expression of self through language. Why do I write fiction? Other than the pat answers like it’s who I am. I have to, there’s a reason … Continue reading →

Muse Recovery & Descriptive Prose

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 27, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 26, 2015

{dusting off the blog}. It’s been a while since my last entry. I was busy with moving back from New Zealand to Denver area, to prepare a life for me and my Sweetie, and we have of course been missing each other desperately, and spending lots of time online Skyping and Typing. And I had to get settled for a while, so I can work out the other plans on the horizon. I am currently residing in an extended stay suite and will probably be here for a while, so i have been trying to climb back on the writing-horse … Continue reading →

Reading, Muses, Curses & the Pick-A-Project-Polka.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on January 30, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 4, 2013

Since completing the third and fourth books (simultaneously) of the AKA Investigations series, I am doing that Pick-A-Project-Polka; a dance we writers do when we’re trying to decide what we feel like working on next; we listen to our muse, we dance with our muse, we kick our muse out and get practical, and we sometimes curse our muse and send it to bed without dinner. All of these I’ve done this time around, as well. Fortunately, I seem to have spent enough time on a particular draft to safely assume it’s the one I will be finishing next. … Continue reading →

Prequels, Sequels, & Spinoffs

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 24, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 26, 2015

Syzygy. Amazingly, the only English word with three Y’s also happens to describe a rare astronomical event involving three heavenly bodies. A syzygy is the alignment of three celestial bodies in a straight line… On December 3, 2012, Saturn, Venus & Mercury will align. On that same night, 3 women align to see that justice is done. Ponzi Bonnet thought she had found the perfect husband. A psychologist could certainly understand her damage. But her suspicion of infidelity turns out to be something far worse. Far more sinister. And he had to be stopped. This new book I’m working on–and … Continue reading →

Nietzsche, Relationships & the Creative Abyss

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 3, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliFebruary 22, 2012

One of the more useful lessons I’ve learned in my life is that we often have habits about how we deal with things, based on a set of information that may not be applicable anymore. This is why I have to do revisions. I have to re-vision something—look at it again—in order to discover whether or not the method I’m using still applies. Life is about change, and sometimes things change just enough, so that what you have always done is no longer a solution to the new situations and conditions that you are now experiencing. I might be squishing … Continue reading →

Creativity, Intelligence & Depressive Realism

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 30, 2012

From a Facebook post I made, a thought-provoking subject emerged. Jae Baeli : “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” ~ Ernest Hemingway Tina Harada likes this. Amanda Gulledge I frowned when I read that so I would feel more intelligent. Candace Lynn Breaux Is that why I am unhappy so much of the time? LOL Jae Baeli LOL. Amanda–you crack me up. Candy–probably, yes. Victoria Bard love it…so true! Sandi Partee hmmm…so does that mean I’m not intelligent? Cause I’m happy as a lark! LOL! I understand Sandi’s reply was meant lightly, but let me just … Continue reading →

Drive-By Writing

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 18, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 28, 2011

If you’re a writer, you are probably familiar with the tendency to try to write ideas down while driving. I seem to get my best ideas when I’m driving, and it’s the most inopportune moment to do it. Surprisingly, I don’t always have a pen handy. That’s why I bought one of those key chain attachable sharpie markers… But then there’s not always paper. I know this sounds crazy for a voluminous writer like myself not to have paper and pen….there were times when an idea was so good, I considered to pricking my finger and writing it in … Continue reading →

Put THAT in Your Pipe

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 8, 2007 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 8, 2007

What with all the new age channeling going on, (allowing non-physical entities to speak through them) I’ve had to decide how I feel about it. . .because, you know, there can be nothing in my experience left misunderstood. . . Aside from the Channels who are obvious charlatans, I believe there are some who are authentic (a truth that crosses over many boundaries and into many situations). In my endeavors to understand this phenomenon, I’ve had to take the beliefs I had in place and add any new beliefs I’ve come to; and I’ve come to this: I am a … Continue reading →

My Muse Still Breathes

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 22, 2007 by Kelli Jae BaeliJanuary 26, 2013

All authors get to a point in their writing life, where they feel they have plumbed the depths of the well the Muse provides, and begin to doubt that they have anything else to offer. This is usually a case of stagnation within the milieu of new experience. Without new input, new contrasts in our day to day lives, we can only reiterate what we have already learned. I had reached this point a few weeks ago. I feared that the 12 books I have in print and the 2 I’m almost finished with, were to be the last. … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"I guess that work I did in my Card-Carrying-Harpy support group really paid off. There will be no tearing of flesh today."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
