In the Context of Spiders:
responses matter

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on May 17, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 11, 2020

I was still working on the book, as I have been all day and evening, and Melissa came in for hugs, and then i sat back down in my chair, discussing what she’d probably have to do with this book while I’m recuperating after surgery. Lots of edits on the horizon, and such. About that time, I felt something crawling on my side, up under my shirt. I’d been slapping bugs off me all day today. Since I can rarely see past the swell of my bodacious tah-tahs, I lifted my shirt and Melissa laid eyes on the thing, and shouted with … Continue reading →

Inflatable Travel Companion

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 31, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 5, 2017

Most of my adult life, I’ve wanted a full-sized female mannequin posted in my foyer. Not just for comedic value. For practicality. I’m very utilitarian. I figured I could use her to hold the stuff I need by the door. She could wear my hat, hold my keys, my bag, my jacket– either wearing it or draped over one stiff arm. Or I imagined I could just put her in the house somewhere and dress her up in different outfits. Since my wife and I are always talking about our future life on the road in a travel trailer, throwing … Continue reading →

Being a Delicate Organism

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 8, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 9, 2017

Highly Sensitive People are, as the moniker suggests, acutely aware of stimuli. Which is one reason I prefer the designation of Highly Aware Person. HAP. I’m a Hap. A Happy. Sounds much better to me than being called “Highly Sensitive” which carries with it a rather pejorative tint. But HSP is the most commonly used acronym in reference to us, and so I feel a bit obligated to use it. HSPs are often aware of sensory input that others miss. We are about 20% of the population, and this Sensory Processing Sensitivity is found in around 100 other species, as … Continue reading →

Hang-outs, Sculpture & Tangents

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 7, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

Sitting down with my first cup of coffee. I’ve been noticing that I’m beginning to ramble and go on tangents in the morning, recently. This is a good thing, as I need to get back to writing novels. So my readers will please forgive anything that might spill out after this paragraph…it’s even more likely to happen because this is the first writing I am doing upon waking… SO. Recently someone I’ve been talking to online mentioned she was a sculptor, and also asked me where I hang out. I don’t really have a hang-out, per se. If I did, … Continue reading →

Positive Anchoring, Honesty & Humor

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 22, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2013

Sometimes we have to come up with clever solutions to problems. Three of my most cherished and successful coping skills have been Positive Anchoring, honesty and humor. One of the situations that is particularly challenging is being nervous in social situations. For an HSP, it’s doubly hard and it happens far more often. We often find ourselves overwhelmed by that date we have with someone we’re attracted to. We can spoil an entire evening with the handwringing and insecure self-talk going on in our heads. We can spill our drinks, say something insipid or insulting, or just panic, make up … Continue reading →

Turn, Turn, Turn

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on July 21, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 6, 2013

{reposted from Facebook} I just had a really unsettling experience. I’m trying right now to just calm my thumping heart, and take a breath. One thing that is no secret about me, is that I don’t have many secrets. I am pretty open. I have to be, because I am a creative person who produces creative material. But I don’t pretend that I’m so special that i don’t have a day to day life with day to day struggles and victories that i wish to share with those in my life. Nor do I pretend that human nature is always … Continue reading →

I Don’t Keep Hoardly Anything

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 26, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

….Looking at the Hoard Mentality Every so often, when I’m doing Spring cleaning, or having guests over I want to impress, I look around and think: Hark! I might be mental. I think I’m a hoarder. I’m reorganizing and cleaning, and everywhere I have things that need a place to go, and then I ask myself, why do I have so many things? I know it is my lack mentality. I did without, and was always broke my whole life, and so now it’s a habit to hang onto things just in case. Every time I had let go of … Continue reading →

Brain Dump: Mortality & Meaning

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 25, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 10, 2013

Okay, I know this is going to be less a blog, and more a journal entry, but whatever. Consider it the first in a series of brain dumps. <<–Look, i even made a graphic for it…. Onward…. I usually try to see the bright side of things, and when I can’t do that, I try to see the funny side. Anyone who reads this blog knows that. And often the dark side can be funny, if you know how to manipulate the data. But this morning, I think my brain is in some other gear….PARK, maybe. It hits me like … Continue reading →

Catching Hell From the Hellish

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 24, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

Even within my own “supposed” community, the community assigned to me by virtue of my sexual preference, I catch hell in the online dating realm, whenever I complain about the content of insipid emails from the dull and ignorant on personals sites. Misspelled words, fragmented sentences, fake modesty, transparent bravado, shallow beliefs, misplaced haughtiness, gender confusion, the walking wounded…. Sometimes I can’t believe it. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to believe it, because it’s true. It happens to me repeatedly, like some recurring rash… I continue to get those kinds of mails. I even started a special forum called … Continue reading →

I Love My Shoes

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 17, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliFebruary 17, 2008

Yesterday, I wrote a blog about Biscuit, my cat who has S.A.D, O.C.D, and B.P.D. and EIEIO… My other cat, Shoes, found out, and was really pissed. I promised her I’d write a blog about her too, so here it goes. Shoes named herself. I saw her little white markings on her feet and thought of “Socks” and Boots” but those were too trite. Then she climbed halfway in one of my shoes and mewed at me and I went. “Oh…Shoes, is it?” So she named herself, and had a way of acting like I was pretty stupid not to … Continue reading →

Barbie Cutlery

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 16, 2004 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 16, 2004

Some years ago I was invited to a Barbie-Party. This other couple I know has one foofy member who likes to throw theme parties, and this was the one that had some impact on my life…(as absurd at that sounds). One of the gifts she gave out to us was our own personal set of Barbie Cutlery. It was bright pink, made of thick, durable plastic, and I took it home with me and found that after I used it a few times, I didn’t want to use anything else… Perhaps I should explain that I have this little quirk–I … Continue reading →

Space Invader

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 18, 2004 by Kelli Jae BaeliJanuary 8, 2012

It started out with me on my way to the grocery store, having awakened with no coffee in the house-a tragedy all on its own. I thought of that little coffeeshop down the street and thought maybe I’d stop in to check it out, so I brought what i lovingly refer to as my Tippi Tap Typer just in case. Roscoe’s Music and Espresso Cafe was a tiny establishment, but intriguing. It was time I tried to get out of the house a little and use my new toy in a different environment. I ordered a White Chocolate cappuccino and … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"My pillow is so squishy that when I lie down on it...wait-now that makes me sound like a kitten...when I put my head on it--yeah--the sides pop up and over my ears. I look like the Flying nun with an inflamed habit."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
