Scott Crowder Interview of me on House of Fists (reblog)

Posted on June 5, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 5, 2013

reblog Kelli Jae Baeli   My favorite of her book covers. Grumpy Cat cracks me the hell up. Kelli Jae Baeli is different from most of the writers I interview here at The House of Fists in that it was her non-fiction that first drew me to her work, as opposed to the horror or dark fiction practiced by the other interviewees. I’m trying to learn more about writing, though, and not just about writing horror, so I immediately asked her to do me the honor of being interviewed here. She writes very clearly and persuasively, her tone neatly balanced … Continue reading →

Irony-Fest on Giving it Away

Posted on March 20, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliApril 1, 2013

Welcome to the Irony-Fest, please sign in and wear your name tags. This topic has become a comedy of ironies. Herein lies the oft-repeated back-handed compliments and erroneous and mixed opinions we authors often deal with, in relation to our work. It seems that some readers just don’t understand nor appreciate what authors are offering, and why. And they don’t seem to understand the function of short works in this regard. Would that we could be treated with the same respect that other professions enjoy, without  suffering the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. In one blog, Distracting Fiction: Brand … Continue reading →

Giving it Away Giveaway

Posted on March 19, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 19, 2013

In response to the unusual interest paid to one of my recent blogs, Giving it Away: Spoilers as Both Noun & Accusation, I decided I  would publish that entry in digital form, so I could spread the word. I will be offering it for free download –that’s right: Giving it Away, will be GIVEN AWAY> on Smashwords, and on Amazon, too, hoping they match the FREE price. Otherwise, Amazon might list it for .99 at first. But I felt this information was too important, and it needed to be available to those who would write book reviews. from the article: … Continue reading →

Word Count & a Teeming Brain

Posted on September 30, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 30, 2012

One writer mentioned on her blog that she hates it when other writers have word count widgets on their blogs. It was as if they were showing off how much writing they got done. She didn’t do word counts herself because there were times when she took writing out and replaced it, and then the word count stayed the same even though she might have had a perfectly good day’s writing under her literary belt. I have word count meters on my blog, but not for the reasons the aforementioned writer says. I have a word count meter because first, … Continue reading →

Creativity, Intelligence & Depressive Realism

Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 30, 2012

From a Facebook post I made, a thought-provoking subject emerged. Jae Baeli : “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” ~ Ernest Hemingway Tina Harada likes this. Amanda Gulledge I frowned when I read that so I would feel more intelligent. Candace Lynn Breaux Is that why I am unhappy so much of the time? LOL Jae Baeli LOL. Amanda–you crack me up. Candy–probably, yes. Victoria Bard love it…so true! Sandi Partee hmmm…so does that mean I’m not intelligent? Cause I’m happy as a lark! LOL! I understand Sandi’s reply was meant lightly, but let me just … Continue reading →

Virtual Strangers (a Play in One Act)

FADE IN: INT. – POPULAR SINGLES BAR – NIGHT In a bar specifically for singles who are seeking partners. patrons mill about, as is normal for most social establishments. But they are all moving about inside a white cardboard box. On the outside of the boxes, there is text. Each of them is also wearing a bag over their head. The text on the boxes is information about themselves. A profile. Sometimes there’s only one line of text, sometimes the surface of the boxes is filled up with a great deal of detail. One Boxed & Bagged person approaches another. B&B1 Hi. … Continue reading →

Gynepsychology

Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 26, 2011

You ever wonder who the gynecologist for famous actresses is? Can you imagine? Most men dream of even seeing a female star; this guy gets to put his fingers in their coochies, and put his face right up there in it. All in the name of medicine. Sanctioned by reputable institutions of higher learning. But they’re still men, and I can’t imagine they wouldn’t be just a little thrilled with their career choice. I’ve always been suspicious of male gynecologists, anyway. I mean, what kind of guy is in med school and decides he wants to look at vagina’s all … Continue reading →

Chicken-Proper

Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 12, 2013

The tendency for some humans to be weak-minded disturbs me sometimes. So often, it is easier to embrace the easy answer of “I don’t know” over the more difficult response, “I don’t know, but I’ll try to find out.” Example: we’ve often heard the alleged conundrum “Which came first, the chicken or the egg?” as if this is some mind-bender of a riddle. It’s not as inexplicable as all that. To wit: from a scientific perspective, at one time, there were no chickens, and chickens appeared in the evolutionary chain because two non-chickens mated, created a zygote (first cell) of … Continue reading →

Baggage (Review & Excerpt)

Posted on December 9, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 26, 2011

“I have read 2 of Baeli’s other books–Armchair Detective and Also Known as DNA, both of them in the lesbian fiction genre, so I decided i should also check out her mainstream novels–Achilles Forjan and Baggage. I started with Baggage. I have to say, Baeli is every bit as good in the mainstream genre; she’s just a solid, quality writer who never disappoints, no matter what genre she chooses to write in. In this case, the book Baggage was an engaging, heartfelt and enjoyable story–it’s a little bit family-saga, a little bit romance, a little bit suspense. But it grabbed … Continue reading →

Also Known as DNA (Reviews & Excerpt)

Posted on December 7, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMay 3, 2018

REVIEWS for Also Known As DNA (Book 2 in the AKA Investigations Series) “After reading Armchair Detective,  the first in the AKA Investigations series, I didn’t think Baeli could top herself. But damned if she didn’t write another outstanding book!  She is definitely no one-hit-wonder.  Kelli Jae Baeli is able to engage a reader in a way that most writers can only dream of. Compelling, sometimes hysterically funny, snappy dialogue, 3 dimensional characters you fall in love with, and a plot that pulls you along as if you are tethered to an unforgiving rope. You are cheating yourself if … Continue reading →

FWPB

Posted on November 29, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

Sometimes we forget the gray areas. The innocuous middle ground that is so often overlooked because it doesn’t scream at us like the extremes do. It’s why certain things are overlooked; like the independent voters, the agnostics, reputable, stable, feminine lesbians, and the middle class. It had occurred to me that sexuality holds its own equidistant region. We have often heard of that relational designation of fuck-buddy (FB), and the other one of Friends with Benefits (FWB), but I contend there is another. The one in the gray area, which has remained undefined, and perhaps under-utilized… FWPB. Friends With Partial … Continue reading →

Already (poem)

Posted on November 28, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 26, 2011

I already love her mind. I already love her words. I already love the parts of herself she reveals to me in herds of raw, broken, struggling, yet completely filled vessels of hope and understanding. I’m not demanding totally sodden with angst, yet pure, unfettered, passionate, real. A bargain on hearts, today, mine’s a steal. I don’t know where this thing will go knowing, yet knowing, I cannot know wishing and hoping, that floating hope I’m holding the wrong end of the rope relating the angst of the things we do feeling connection, connection anew reaching for content, my spirit … Continue reading →

Throwing Bullets

Posted on November 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 26, 2011

My best friend, Justi, and I were talking about knives and axes, as weapons.  (I know, but we often have strange conversations with little memory of exactly how the subject came up). Anyway, she liked the idea of using them as weapons –of throwing an axe at someone who was attacking her. And as usual added, “Don’t you?” I said no, I don’t want to get that close to someone who is trying to kill me. She said, “You don’t have to get close, it’s an axe. You can just throw it at them.” I deftly spotting the flaw in … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"The conundrum of insanity, is that it serves us to be some of each. It's really only a question of degrees. You cannot possibly be 100% adjusted and live in this INSANE world. A little bit of crazy is a coping skill."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
