Rebuttal To Splenetic Diatribe Against Low Wage Workers

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 17, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 17, 2020

This was originally on a Facebook post in 2014. I thought it needed to be shared on my blog. First, let me say that I am a veteran. I have a lifetime disability compensation due to injuries I suffered while enlisted, and trauma afterward. I joined the Army because I wanted an education, so that I wouldn’t be stuck flipping burgers the rest of my life. I worked at nearly every fast food chain you can name, and in most other service industry segments. I was only able to get an education because of my military disability and being helped … Continue reading →

Two 2020 Mantras:
Adapt or die, Vote or die

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on May 18, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliMay 18, 2020

ADAPT OR DIE. That’s the new mantra. Our world has changed, and don’t you believe for a hot minute the fairy tale that things will go back to “normal.” First, they haven’t been “normal” for the last three-plus years. Second, there is no way they ever will, because too much has changed, and there are things that SHOULD CHANGE. This is a flashpoint. A pivotal point in our history. We can take the opportunity now to implement all those things that got bogged down in various sociopolitical quicksands, and create a brighter future for us all. Or we can fuck … Continue reading →

another bitch of a ditch

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 14, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 14, 2020

Change is good, they said. I believe that’s true, most days. Especially since I feel I’ve been in a bitch of a ditch for the last 7 years. Well, not the same ditch. Different ditches. But ditches, just the same. Trenches, maybe. Foxholes. Caves? Anyway, I was ready for those changes we were finally able to make. My wife was about to get a small inheritance. Just enough to get us where we needed to go, if we were lucky. But the inheritance was delayed by various machinations, a few of them due to some abject assholery perpetrated by other … Continue reading →

Glaring Errors

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 7, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 7, 2013

This is a wide subject area, but I want to focus on just a few things. As a segue, I have to share this post I came across. I was on a forum where people were posting for help about making money blogging. One poster was frustrated and confused and posted this: “Been using these for over a year and made 2 penies.  How do I earn money on goggle.  It is simply frostrating.  I posted so many adds  on my blog but I have earned no money. what is happening? I have been trying to write all the … Continue reading →

Indie Overload

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 28, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2013

Being an independent author and publisher has its perks, like creative control and higher royalties, but it also has its headaches. For instance, I have to do the job of about 12 people most of the time. I have to be a writer, editor, graphic artist, publisher, indexer, typographer, secretary, publicist, agent, personal assistant, accountant, shipping manager… and anything else that might arise. Managing all of the inherent details of such an endeavor is a monster-job, but I have found it difficult to explain to others why a computer crash is such a stressful tragedy for me.  My writing directory … Continue reading →

EXTENDED STRESS Hotel.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 2, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 5, 2011

My Cherryot was loaded to capacity, with the things I thought I’d need for two months, until an apartment became available.   At Extended Stay, I checked in with desk clerk–started to unload, and had to take several things up first (5 trips in elevator) before I noticed that there was a luggage cart in front with a tattooed guy leaning on it talking to another guy. “Oh a luggage cart!” I said. “I need that.” He said he only had a couple of things and rushed off to get his task done so I could have it. Meantime, I … Continue reading →

Vamoosing

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 29, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2013

Suspended my Netflix account. Still packing, desperately needing boxes. Downstairs, I pulled up everything in that storage room, which was the contents brought so far from storage when I actually thought I was going to be living here permanently, and her mother had finally moved, so I could do that. But only after we had ripped up the carpet down there and cleaned the unbelievable nastiness her mother lived in. bleach fumes, up and down stairs, aching body. I realized I would have to leave some things behind because it wouldn’t fit in my car or in storage, and I … Continue reading →

What Money Can Buy

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on July 7, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliJuly 7, 2009

I was at the store, returning some merchandise and then grabbing a few things while I was there. When i checked out, I used two gift cards, expecting to still pay a remainder in cash, since I had bought three shirts. I was pleased to see that the bill was not as high as I expected, and then started for the door. halfway there, I noticed the shirts were still draped over the basket, but they had been right there in plain site of the cashier. As I neared the security device, I thought Well, if these were not paid … Continue reading →

I’m having (gulp) good luck.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 14, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 10, 2013

Things seem to be trending my way. Anyone who knows my recent history knows that that is a milestone all by itself. I have been too isolated for a long time and have been trying to arrange a relocation to the Denver/Boulder area, but that’s a process that will take some time. Meanwhile, I wanted to have a social life again. So I placed an ad on Craig’s List. Now, if someone had told me this before, I would have done Craigslist instead of the 40 other dating sites. Hands down, I have had more luck meeting women because of … Continue reading →

Cheap Wine, Twinkies & Chick-O-Sticks

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 12, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 12, 2008

I like cheap wine. I like it because it costs less, and because it doesn’t have a cork. Corks have been notorious for wreaking havoc. Some have been known to cause temporary blindness, which is to be expected from a projectile made from the wood of a Portuguese oak tree. And when I’m ready to have a glass of wine, i sure don’t want to work harder for it than your average Puma. I realize that maybe if I didn’t buy those cheap corkscrews, it wouldn’t be so hard to open a wine bottle, but that’s beside the point. As … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

I spend a good deal of time on the plot, and the twists in that plot, and I always try to do something with it that is unexpected and clever. When you blab all that to other readers, then why would they want to read the book, when they already know all the surprises? Some writers are trying to make a living with their work, just like you are. How would you like it if someone came to your job and told everyone something that kept you from getting paid?

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

I try to create sympathy for my characters, then turn the monsters loose. ~ Stephen King

Word of the Day

Is it just me, or is something wrong with Al Franken? Saw him on Stephanie Ruhl tonight. He seems off, like his brain isn't functioning. I've never seen him like that. Does he have a health issue?
