Whole Brain Literary Food

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 12, 2016 by Kelli Jae BaeliJanuary 25, 2018

Recently, I posted a inquiry to my readers, about a publishing aspect of my work. All the responses were encouraging and thought-provoking, but one in particular touched upon some deeper themes. Here it is. TO MY READERS–A QUESTION: As authors, we want to please everyone, but that’s just not possible. For instance, on my newest novella, Saturation Point, I have 4 and 5 star reviews and personal messages and emails that tell me how much they enjoyed the introspective nature of this book, and the characters, but on one review, the reviewer was bored because there wasn’t dialogue on every … Continue reading →

Singing, Snoring & Joy

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 11, 2015 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2015

Something happened to me. I was applying formatting to print file for one of my books, feeling the dessicated adrenal supplement coursing through my veins, and i was singing along to Shawn Colvin on “Get out of this house”, formatting, and feeling pretty damn good…and then i just started crying…not from sadness. It was a sensation I hadn’t felt in such a long time…one I can only describe as the elusive feeling of pure JOY. It made me want to perform again, write songs again. Buy a guitar to use until i could get mine from storage…I could barely sing … Continue reading →

Alien Methodology

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on May 15, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 26, 2015

A few days ago, I began working on a story idea of the alien invasion variety, because the premise made me laugh and I thought it would be fun. Besides, I have wanted to do a series of short stories to test the market and see what people were responding to these days. Well, the alien invasion story became more like an alien visitation. And then, I found that while it was entertaining in premise, there was no real conflict going on, and none of the characters had much to gain or lose. That’s the death knell for plotting. One … Continue reading →

Prequels, Sequels, & Spinoffs

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 24, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 26, 2015

Syzygy. Amazingly, the only English word with three Y’s also happens to describe a rare astronomical event involving three heavenly bodies. A syzygy is the alignment of three celestial bodies in a straight line… On December 3, 2012, Saturn, Venus & Mercury will align. On that same night, 3 women align to see that justice is done. Ponzi Bonnet thought she had found the perfect husband. A psychologist could certainly understand her damage. But her suspicion of infidelity turns out to be something far worse. Far more sinister. And he had to be stopped. This new book I’m working on–and … Continue reading →

Creativity, Intelligence & Depressive Realism

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 30, 2012

From a Facebook post I made, a thought-provoking subject emerged. Jae Baeli : “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” ~ Ernest Hemingway Tina Harada likes this. Amanda Gulledge I frowned when I read that so I would feel more intelligent. Candace Lynn Breaux Is that why I am unhappy so much of the time? LOL Jae Baeli LOL. Amanda–you crack me up. Candy–probably, yes. Victoria Bard love it…so true! Sandi Partee hmmm…so does that mean I’m not intelligent? Cause I’m happy as a lark! LOL! I understand Sandi’s reply was meant lightly, but let me just … Continue reading →

Is This What it Takes?

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 17, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 17, 2011

Today, I worked on the 3rd book of the AKA Investigations series. I had to really think about what changed to make me go into that zone again–I’ve been trying so long to get there. One thing was that i just enjoyed a visit with my best friend who came to see me for 4 days. I hadn’t seen her in over 2 years. We had a great social time. Then, while she was here, I held my first local meeting of Kindred Ink Writers Initiative (KIWI) and got to talk a lot about writing, both in the group and … Continue reading →

iGoogle for Ideas & Reference

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 21, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 6, 2013

One tool that I use everyday has proven invaluable to my writing. It also has value in other areas, but for the purpose of this post, I will address iGoogle for writers. If you are not aware of iGoogle, it would behoove you to change that. iGoogle allows you to personalize your information searches. You can gather, track and monitor all areas of interest, and all in one place, on one page. You add widgets or modules to a certain tab, which you can also create. I have a writing tab where I place all modules concerning writing. This … Continue reading →

Drive-By Writing

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 18, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 28, 2011

If you’re a writer, you are probably familiar with the tendency to try to write ideas down while driving. I seem to get my best ideas when I’m driving, and it’s the most inopportune moment to do it. Surprisingly, I don’t always have a pen handy. That’s why I bought one of those key chain attachable sharpie markers… But then there’s not always paper. I know this sounds crazy for a voluminous writer like myself not to have paper and pen….there were times when an idea was so good, I considered to pricking my finger and writing it in … Continue reading →

Is that What Really Happened?

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 8, 2007 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 8, 2007

…and then there are times when our view of a situation is tainted by erroneous beliefs. It only takes one morsel of misunderstanding, one particle of perpetuation, and all proverbial hell breaks loose. And this Hell might be just the catalyst for a solution. Maybe even the ONLY catalyst that would serve the purpose. As thinking humans, we learn from our experience. We understand through associations. If we have a repeated experience, we soon believe that it is in fact the SAME experience. It is a reflection of the old adage, “If it walks like a duck, quacks like a … Continue reading →

Put THAT in Your Pipe

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 8, 2007 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 8, 2007

What with all the new age channeling going on, (allowing non-physical entities to speak through them) I’ve had to decide how I feel about it. . .because, you know, there can be nothing in my experience left misunderstood. . . Aside from the Channels who are obvious charlatans, I believe there are some who are authentic (a truth that crosses over many boundaries and into many situations). In my endeavors to understand this phenomenon, I’ve had to take the beliefs I had in place and add any new beliefs I’ve come to; and I’ve come to this: I am a … Continue reading →

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

Quotes for Writers

—Patrick Dennis

Word of the Day

ergoUR-go; AIR- , adverb: Therefore; consequently; - often used in a jocular way.

Favorite Quotes

“No," I replied testily. "I'm pretty sure 'digital' is Latin for 'fingeral,' so finger cancer equals digital cancer. This is all basic anatomy, Dr. Roland." Then Dr. Roland told me that he thought I was overreacting, and that "fingeral" wasn't even a real word. Then I told him that I thought he was underreacting, probably because he's embarrassed that he doesn't know how Latin works. Then he claimed that "underreacating" isn't a word either. The man has a terrible bedside manner.” ~ Jenny Lawson, Let's Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir
