Singing, Snoring & Joy

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 11, 2015 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2015

Something happened to me. I was applying formatting to print file for one of my books, feeling the dessicated adrenal supplement coursing through my veins, and i was singing along to Shawn Colvin on “Get out of this house”, formatting, and feeling pretty damn good…and then i just started crying…not from sadness. It was a sensation I hadn’t felt in such a long time…one I can only describe as the elusive feeling of pure JOY. It made me want to perform again, write songs again. Buy a guitar to use until i could get mine from storage…I could barely sing … Continue reading →

Oh Victory in Earworms (A Melodious Malady)

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 25, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMay 3, 2018

Kelli Jae Baeli #IronyoftheDay I’m an atheist, & yet I woke up with a HYMN stuck in my head. I’d pray to God to make it stop, but then, well. You know. Pasted from <https://www.facebook.com/jaebaeli> Yeah, that was my status update this morning. It’s bad enough, when you just get a regular song stuck in your head, but for an ATHEIST to get a HYMN lodged up in that looping track? Not just the insipid sycophantic melody those tunes always have, but the actual content of the lyrics, the sentiments inherent in hymnal/gospel music, et al; it’s sandpaper against every … Continue reading →

The X-Factor: Try to Rap Your Head Around This

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 3, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliDecember 3, 2011

I’ve been Tweeting my responses to the X-Factor, and found that I had lots to say on the matter. So I decided to blog it. The previous entry was about the contestants and the show in general. This one is about a specific aspect which seems to be causing a stir. In the dictionary, X-Factor is defined as a hard-to-describe influence or quality; an important element with unknown consequences. Embedded in this definition are certain criteria; namely, that a contestant on the show should be able to demonstrate vocal ability, showmanship, uniqueness, and a certain charm that would endear an … Continue reading →

Tell Me About Yourself

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 4, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 4, 2011

When I’m single, and meeting new women, dating and searching for that special someone who will fit harmoniously into my life, I often come across women who say “Tell me about yourself.” I hate that question. Not because i can’t talk about myself, or am not self-actualized enough to be able to communicate my identity, but because it’s like standing in a library and someone asking, “What’s in all those books?” I usually have the urge to refer them to my books, or blogs, or music or art. Then they say, “I don’t want to look at your art, or … Continue reading →

My Birthday Legacy Rumination

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 13, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 30, 2012

Today is my birthday. I’ll be 44. (yes, i will! shut up!). And since today is my birthday, I thought I’d do the obligatory ruminations. Who, what, where, when, and why…and how.WHO: My big three identity markers are, Author, Artist, Singer-Songwriter. I’m also an avid blogger, a therapeutic touchist, a webmaster, an armchair philosopher, and….I like cheese. WHAT: Fiction and non-fiction–I have 12 books in print with about 5 more available (I hope) by the end of this year. I like to paint, and do sculpture and pottery. I record CD’s of my original music in my paltry home-studio, and … Continue reading →

Artistic Angst

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 21, 2007 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 28, 2011

Certain situations and combination of events and feelings coincide and then all existential hell breaks loose in me. I’ve gotten off on a track of thinking that has led me to this point of stress, angst, emotional upheaval. Partly, the stress stems from this Guitar Bar idea becoming more about me, and less about the venue. More pointedly, the stress of defining myself. Identity markers. Strip away those and we fall apart, evaporate, cease to exist or are merely taking up space. How do we stay balanced in our understanding of success? Is success represented by money? by acknowledgment of … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"Commitment implies exclusivity. Otherwise, it's just dating."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
