Yes I Want to Take Your (War) Guns

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 3, 2019 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 3, 2019

First, I am a humanist and a liberal Democrat. I am also a military veteran. I don’t hunt, because I don’t have the heart for it, and would only do it in a survival situation. I do, however, feel better if I have a gun of some kind to protect me and mine against break-ins. (See, women are naturally like that, since we are the ones who get raped by men). I have no problem doing the gun ownership legally, and proving that I can safely own and use a firearm. Check my background. I have nothing to hide.   … Continue reading →

Gun Control vs. Second Amendment

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 3, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 10, 2020

When I was in the military, I could disassemble an M-16A1 and put it back together. I qualified as Expert, only one shot away from Hawkeye, (due to a miscommunication by the Drill Sergeant with the tower). I appreciated and admired the design and power of this weapon. But as a civilian vet, now, do I need an automatic weapon? No. No, I do not. And neither does any other civilian. These guns are for killing. They are for killing other human beings. IN WAR. They are not toys. Neither should they be a civic statement of outrage or bitterness … Continue reading →

Policing the Police

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 25, 2016 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 26, 2016

UPDATE: see end of this essay for my updated remarks after learning new information…. Few things are black and white, unless you’re talking about racism. In regard to gun violence and police shootings, there are solid arguments on either side of this contentious issue which tells me once again that the truth is most often found in the middle and that extremism of any kind is both dangerous and counterproductive. Right out of the chute, let me say that I know there are good cops out there. In fact, I believe that MOST cops are honorable, compassionate people who really … Continue reading →

God Continues His Preacher Killing Spree

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 9, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

http://www.wsmv.com/news/15642032/detail.html A preacher, killed by a goat. that’s right. Although, in the text of the story, we learn that probably the 40 pound, normally docile goat could not have killed this big strapping man. More likely, the guy had a heart attack after he got tangled in the rope and fell. But they killed the goat, just to be sure. So….god is not above sending a goat to do an assassin’s job. Pastor’s six family members killed by accident in Kerala http://salemvoice.org/svmnews286.html Can anyone say “The Book of Job”? From http://www.safeatchurch.com/examples.asp : Gunman Kills Seven, and Himself, In Texas Church … Continue reading →

Is God Pissed with Christians?

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 9, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 9, 2009

I’m sensing a trend, here. My previous post was about god electrocuting a preacher in the baptismal. Now, he’s allowing someone to gun down the pastor? Is god turning on his PEOPLE? Pastor gunned down in Illinois church Posted: 02:38 PM ET (CNN) — The pastor of a Maryville, Illinois, church was shot to death during a service Sunday in front of horrified parishoners who then tackled the gunman, state police said. Fred Winters, the pastor of the First Baptist Church, was shot and killed during the 8 a.m. service, while his attacker and two parishoners suffered knife wounds, Illinois … Continue reading →

5 Shooters in One Week-What gives?

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 11, 2008 by Kelli Jae BaeliFebruary 11, 2008

7feb08I heard four different reports of shootings In Portsmouth, Ohio, a husband shot and stabbed his teacher wife in front of her students. In Los Angeles, some guy barricades himself in his house and says he killed three family members. . .swat officer shot and killed. and in St Louis MO (Kirkwood)city hall, Gerald Thornton shoots 5, and he is killed by police… William Michael Layne, in the first incident, walked into his estranged wife’s classroom and shot and stabbed her in front of her fifth-grade class. She had filed for divorce in January, so it seems this was related … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"The 2nd Amendment needs updating to reflect our modern world. We don't use flintlock pistols anymore, we have high-tech weaponry meant for killing human beings. Civilians have no reasonable need for weapons of war."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

If you think that Christianity is the most direct and undefiled expression of love and compassion the world has ever seen, you do not know much about the world's other religions. Take the religion of Jainism as one example. The Jains preach a doctrine of utter non-violence. While the Jains believe many improbable things about the universe, they do not believe the sorts of things that lit the fires of the Inquisition. You probably think the Inquisition was a perversion of the "true" spirit of Christianity. Perhaps it was. The problem, however, is that the teachings of the Bible are so muddled and self-contradictory that it was possible for Christians to happily burn heretics alive for five long centuries. It was even possible for the most venerated patriarchs of the Church, like St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas, to conclude that heretics should be tortured (Augustine) or killed outright (Aquinas). Martin Luther and John Calvin advocated the wholesale murder of heretics, apostates, Jews, and witches. You are, of course, free to interpret the Bible differently--though isn't it amazing that you have succeeded in discerning the true teachings of Christianity, while the most influential thinkers in the history of your faith failed? ~SAM HARRIS, Letter to a Christian Nation

Is it just me, or is something wrong with Al Franken? Saw him on Stephanie Ruhl tonight. He seems off, like his brain isn't functioning. I've never seen him like that. Does he have a health issue?
