Protein entrée, per USA

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 12, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 12, 2020

Beef, chicken, pork. Why are there only three meat choices? Okay four, if you count fish. I don’t eat much fish, though, so for me, it probably doesn’t count. I like seafood, especially crab, lobster, shrimp and scallops, but not fresh water fish, except for the occasional pollock. Most fresh fish, ironically, doesn’t taste fresh to me, it tastes…fishy. Anyway. Meat is actually defined as “the flesh of mammals used as food, as distinguished from that of birds and fish” which means that poultry and fish shouldn’t be on that list anyway. That leaves two meat, poultry, fish. So. Still … Continue reading →

Projects, Pitfalls, Promise

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on July 31, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 11, 2020

Shame on me. I haven’t posted a blog in a long time. SO much going on with us lately. Dealing with sudden health issues happening all at once, burned out, exhausted, feeling ill all the time, I was certainly not inspired to write. So I decided to take a 6-month sabbatical. It turned into 8 months when I found out in the middle of it I needed major surgery. So, I had to face my #2 biggest fear, (surgery) and I’ve been recovering from a full abdominal hysterectomy, and after almost 8 weeks, I’m still having some issues, which I … Continue reading →

Day of the Turkeys

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 1, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 5, 2017

For our first wedding anniversary, Melissa and I went to Onyx cave in Eureka Springs. Heading out, we were, as usual, watching for good pictures, our cameras at the ready, as I steered the Avalanche (whom we lovingly call Ava Lanche, as in French style Launch-SHAY. She is like another one of our pets.) Just down the road on Highway 23, we stopped to take photos of a tree full of turkey vultures. Creepy and wonderful. This was balanced by a precious little bluebird Melissa captured nearby. But not a turkey bluebird. We were starving, but thought we’d just stop … Continue reading →

Happy Thanksgivoween

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 29, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 29, 2013

NOTE: I typed in Thanksgivoween, as the title of this blog, while thumbing it into my iPhone…and the autocorrect made it Thank Gully Nig (sounds like a good title- who’s Gully Nig?–I’m sure I’ll come up with a story for that). So–Today I am thankful that I finally found the love of my life even though we can’t be together right now. I am thankful that I have a nice vehicle to provide autonomy and comfort, and a reasonably comfortable place to live, even though it’s just a lonely hotel and nothing more. I am thankful that I am able to … Continue reading →

Domino Bones

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 26, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMay 6, 2013

…Average Morning Weirdness… This morning, I rolled over to greet my honey, as she sat down on the bed (she almost always rises before I do). I heard three pops–one in my right shoulder, one in my neck, one in my left shoulder. I made some comment like, “Oh, my crunchy joints…they pop in sequence…it’s like dominoes. I have Domino Bones.” Then, I realized how much I liked the phrase. Domino Bones. “Sounds like the name of a canyon in Montana,” I say. Then put on my announcer voice: “They were lost in the canyon of Domino Bones and had … Continue reading →

Birds & Bees (with giggling)

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on May 14, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 6, 2013

NOTE TO READER: I’ve always found the word “chicken” to be comical. I don’t know why. Thus, I will be giggling as I write about them. So…. How exactly do birds do it? Let’s use chickens, [hehehe] shall we? Roosters fancy themselves clever little bastards. If they want to mate, they’ll call the hens out to dinner–which is usually grain on the ground. He lets them start their dinner and then when they are focused on that, he moves in for the kill, without so much as a smooth pick-up line.   We’ve all got that image of a rooster … Continue reading →

Bettered by a Dead Crustacean

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 26, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 12, 2020

A new Chinese restaurant opened up on Holiday Island, and they served all you can eat crab legs. So my best friend, Justi, thought of me (bless her). I went down to have the last of two visits with her before i move. I love crab legs, but rarely find it all-you-can-eat for around $12. So I was all about it. Problem is, I usually get hurt. Is it just me, or do you really feel like you’ve earned it when you get that delicious meat out of the shell? I am usually bleeding before I’m done. I know the … Continue reading →

Space Invader

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on January 8, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliJuly 1, 2012

[Blast from the past–from April 8, 2004] It started out with me on my way to the grocery store, having awakened with no coffee in the house-a tragedy all on its own. I thought of that little coffeeshop down the street and thought maybe I’d stop in to check it out, so I brought what i lovingly refer to as my Tippi Tap Typer just in case. Roscoe’s Music and Espresso Cafe was a tiny establishment, but intriguing. It was time I tried to get out of the house a little and use my new toy in a different environment. … Continue reading →

Creativity, Intelligence & Depressive Realism

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 26, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliJune 30, 2012

From a Facebook post I made, a thought-provoking subject emerged. Jae Baeli : “Happiness in intelligent people is the rarest thing I know.” ~ Ernest Hemingway Tina Harada likes this. Amanda Gulledge I frowned when I read that so I would feel more intelligent. Candace Lynn Breaux Is that why I am unhappy so much of the time? LOL Jae Baeli LOL. Amanda–you crack me up. Candy–probably, yes. Victoria Bard love it…so true! Sandi Partee hmmm…so does that mean I’m not intelligent? Cause I’m happy as a lark! LOL! Hang-outs, Sculpture & Tangents

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on December 7, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 8, 2013

Sitting down with my first cup of coffee. I’ve been noticing that I’m beginning to ramble and go on tangents in the morning, recently. This is a good thing, as I need to get back to writing novels. So my readers will please forgive anything that might spill out after this paragraph…it’s even more likely to happen because this is the first writing I am doing upon waking… SO. Recently someone I’ve been talking to online mentioned she was a sculptor, and also asked me where I hang out. I don’t really have a hang-out, per se. If I did, … Continue reading →

If a Woodchuck Could Chuck YOU.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 28, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 11, 2013

Was meeting a friend at a local pub I like a lot, even though it’s often noisy as hell, and I picked out a booth to wait for my friend to arrive. The waitress gave me a glare when I sat down at the table that still had the paid ticket and the dirty dishes. I had never had a rude waitress there, so gave her the benefit of the doubt. Maybe she wasn’t looking at me. Then it took her a full five minutes to get over there and clean the table off, and I wondered. When I tried … Continue reading →

Coffee Skin

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 24, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliNovember 29, 2011

My coffee has a skin again. I keep my mug on an old coffeemaker masquerading as a hot plate because I like my coffee to remain highly warm while I sip it throughout my morning. And afternoon. And sometimes evening… depending on when I get up. Which is always a malleable enterprise for those with Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome. I also have Coining Of Nomenclature Syndrome (C.O.N.S.), except this time I’m not guilty of it. DSPS really exists. Although when I first saw the abbreviation, I thought it stood for -Dating & Sex Postal Service –this is how I intend … Continue reading →

Maintenance Mike & The Domesticated Harpy

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 12, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 12, 2009

My morning started off rudely. I was awakened first by the construction noises nearby on another patio. And i drifted in and out of sleep, still needing another few hours. Then a banging at my door set my heart to pounding. And the person kept banging. I hurried to open the door, my pistol behind my back as usual, (I am a single woman who lives alone. I make no apologies) and opened the door. The construction guy was standing there with three other guys (already a little daunting for a woman alone) and announced that I had to move … Continue reading →

Jae-Walking

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on June 26, 2009 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 10, 2013

My new exercise program consists primarily of walking, (and sometimes Jumping to Conclusions). I prefer walking the golf course for several reasons: aesthetics (Not many parks around here–the golf course is the “parkiest” place, convenience–it’s just down the hill, the winding, undulating path gives variety to the muscle-workout, and I guess I have a secret desire to be beaned with a golf ball. There‘s a little old man on a golf cart who patrols the area; he’s more like the Hall Monitor than a Security Guard. My first encounter with him went something like this: He whirs up next to … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

"Progress should never be impeded by a need to coddle adults who respond to the world as children."

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
