A Series of Things:
What I'm doing, not doing, and hoping to do

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 26, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 26, 2020

Series writing has been a thorn in my side. I know the consensus is that books do better as a part of a series, but when you’re an Indie Author and Publisher with no employees, choices must be made. I don’t feel I can keep up anymore with my series, nor do I want to. I also don’t like feeling obligated to write something. I’d rather write what inspires me at any given moment. With this in mind, my intentions are to do one more book in each of my series: #3 in New Harbor Witches #4 in Rain Falls … Continue reading →

Furiously Happy:
My brain hungered for humor. Was absolutely famished for fun.

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 24, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 11, 2020

I am very picky about the books I read, and it’s hard to find anything that doesn’t either piss me off or bore me. That might just be a product of having been an Indie Author, honing her craft for 30 years, or maybe it’s just me being too damn critical. But I never had problems in my younger years. Like say, my twenties and before. But then, I didn’t write my first book until I was 26. So maybe it really is that being an author affects my ability to enjoy reading other authors that aren’t top-notch. Garbage in, … Continue reading →

FALL IN LOVE WITH LESFIC SALE

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on October 20, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 20, 2017

I don’t know about you, but it’s hard for me to stay focused on work this time of year. With nighttime falling earlier and the temperature getting chillier, all I want to do is log off the computer and curl up on the couch with a cup of tea, a cozy blanket, my grouchy but lovable cat at my feet, and a book. I need to stock up on books for winter. How about you? Eleven authors (including me) have joined forces to keep you entertained at rock-bottom prices. Below, you’ll find all the goodies on offer. Before I get … Continue reading →

Rocking the Boat

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 26, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 26, 2017

Don’t say anything. Don’t make a comment. It will make you look bad. That’s the usual advice in the publishing industry when someone posts a caustic review of your book, under the assumption that this is about some type of insecurity on the part of a writer. This is not insecurity. It is frustration, and in this case, it’s also outrage. In fact, historically, authors are expected to keep their mouth shut about these things, but I am a proponent of the adage Silence equals Death. This advice to stay mum strikes me as the same mentality that got that Orange Nightmare in the Oval … Continue reading →

New Release: Circling Uranus

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 30, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 31, 2017

5.0 out of 5 starsBrilliant!!!!!! ByThe old one!on August 30, 2017 Kuddos to Ms. Baeli! This story is fantastic. Talk about covering some ground (or space) in a short book—this is a prime example of brilliant writing. Science Fic—yes. Les/fic—somewhat. Adventure—yes. Homesteading–yes. Perseverance—-yes. Bravery—yes. Humor—yes. I liked Story but it was Shrtz that really grabbed me—-and can she ever “grab”! I enjoyed he references to “Clan of the Cave Bear” because it is one of my all time favorite series. I also thought the POTUS anagram was exceptionally well done. If you have any trepidation about reading this—-just go for … Continue reading →

Mistress of Mogador by T.T. Thomas

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 29, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 29, 2017

I have never been a fan of historical romance, perhaps because most of my experience with them has been of the insipid, cheesy variety. Mistress of Mogador is not that. No ridiculous fragile women seeking validation from some musclebound man, poisoned by testosterone; no need to be saved by such a man, and no absurd, quixotic ruminations about love in the vein of puerile cupidity. No, the females of Mistress of Mogador carry the modern I’m-a-Nasty-Woman sensibility, in the most attractive and honorable ways. The characters here are also sufficiently flawed to burst from the page into personhood in the … Continue reading →

Circling Uranus

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 28, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 29, 2017

Done with final draft of Circling Uranus: Samegenders in Space & Elsewhere. Edit/betaread in the hand of Melissa Walker. My short story turned into a novella, and this might be Episode One, as i have ideas for future installments. The blurb isn’t written yet, but here’s the BEFORE WORDS: (at the moment) This story was inspired by the character, India Bell, of the Rain Falls series. As a ruse, she had supposedly written a science fiction book titled Circling Uranus, and it became a bestseller, much to her chagrin. It reportedly included some form of tentacle sex with an alien. I … Continue reading →

Now available–Tristoon the Incorrigible

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 7, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 10, 2017

Only 99 measly cents on Amazon. (or free on KU). After Beowulf, and before Xena, there was Tristoon… (a spoof) “….Then she had made her way back to the Redwood, ushering out the dwarf-people who had taken time out from their incessant cookie-baking to try on her clothes.” From Note to the Reader: Hello, Reader, glad to see you reading. Especially something of mine. I hope you’ll do that again with—oh, ALL my work. For now, a few things about Tristoon: It was written in 1984 after I took a British Literature course. I loved the Beowulf story, but found … Continue reading →

Venetian Blinds

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 4, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 6, 2017

A collection of short fiction by bestselling, genre-hopping indie author, Kelli Jae Baeli, which are, as the author says in her Before Words, “some funny, some strange, some serious, and some even flirt with the Dark Side (where, social media tells me, they have cookies).” She adds, “Populating these stories are an unusual alien; a ghost, Captain Kirk; Beowulf’s spoofy illegitimate warrior-daughter, a violence victim; a stiff, oblivious couple; an estranged daughter; a vengeful girl, a confused young woman; murderous offspring; a frustrated female rookie cop…” None have a common thread or common genre, but all are snippets of the … Continue reading →

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)
