Goldilocks & the BlueWho Dilemma:
A Way to Think About the 2020 Candidates

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 12, 2020 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 11, 2020

It’s obvious we have an unprecedented amount of indecision about who to choose for the Democratic candidate. This undecided #BlueWho thing really matters, and deserves some thoughtful and no-nonsense scrutiny. I believe that most of the undecided voters have the same antecedent. If we can’t know whether we have the Senate, too, we can’t gauge which candidate we can safely vote for, in order to unseat the Orange Little Dicktater. We no longer have the luxury of treating out political candidates like rock stars. We have to get over the idea that they have to be perfect, or check all … Continue reading →

Colonizing vs. Philosophizing

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on August 4, 2017 by Kelli Jae BaeliOctober 15, 2018

From blog-idea archives…. On one of those insipid questions sites, someone asked,  “If something happened to Earth, would you move to another planet?” A few underlying fallacies here. First, if something happened to Earth, you wouldn’t have that choice, so the whole construct of that question falls apart at the beginning. Second, this reasoning is like driving your car until it runs out of gas or breaks down, and then shopping for another one, instead of just maintaining the vehicle properly. Third, were we not dependent on fossil fuels, we would not be in a battle against climate change, and … Continue reading →

Policing the Police

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on September 25, 2016 by Kelli Jae BaeliSeptember 26, 2016

UPDATE: see end of this essay for my updated remarks after learning new information…. Few things are black and white, unless you’re talking about racism. In regard to gun violence and police shootings, there are solid arguments on either side of this contentious issue which tells me once again that the truth is most often found in the middle and that extremism of any kind is both dangerous and counterproductive. Right out of the chute, let me say that I know there are good cops out there. In fact, I believe that MOST cops are honorable, compassionate people who really … Continue reading →

Don’t Make me Unfriend You

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 19, 2016 by Kelli Jae BaeliAugust 6, 2017

When you blend your professional and personal life on Facebook, there will inevitably be instances where the two collide, and not in a good way. Some people might like your writing and be big fans who buy all your books, while they simultaneously make snarky comments to personal posts you make, regarding, say political issues–even when they are not, themselves, properly informed of the issues and the ramifications thereof. If they can’t see the forest for the trees, perhaps it’s time to stop venturing blindly into territory for which they have no map. The hateful rhetoric in our political milieu, … Continue reading →

Condemned to Repeat it?

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on April 4, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliApril 4, 2013

Today, I woke, sat down to my first cup of coffee and found a headline that gave me the sensation of a lead weight in my stomach. North Carolina May Declare Official State Religion Under New Bill Republican North Carolina state legislators have proposed allowing an official state religion in a measure that would declare the state exempt from the Constitution and court rulings. The bill, filed Monday by two GOP lawmakers from Rowan County and backed by nine other Republicans, says each state “is sovereign” and courts cannot block a state “from making laws respecting an establishment of religion.” … Continue reading →

Gun Laws: the Truth is in the Middle

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on March 13, 2013 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 13, 2013

In a sign-meme on Facebook recently, there was a quote by Ronald Reagan: “I do not believe in taking away the right of the citizen for sporting, for hunting and so forth, or for home defense. But I do believe that an AK-47, a machine gun, is not a sporting weapon or needed for defense of a home.” ~Ronald Reagan, in a speech at his 78th birthday celebration in Los Angeles on February 6, 1989. KG MacGregor makes all salient points on this, in her blog Baby, You Can Drive My Gun when suggests using driving laws as a template … Continue reading →

Excerpt from Supernatural Hypocrisy: The Cognitive Dissonance of a God Cosmology by Kelli Jae Baeli   “Twelve Jews were brutally murdered, huge numbers maimed, and many Jewish women were raped. Two million rubles worth  of property was destroyed.” ~ Lawrence Kelleman   Isn’t Christmas a wonderful time of year? Consider this: Thus says the LORD, Do not learn the way of the nations, And do not be terrified by the signs of the Heavens, although the nations are terrified by them; For the customs of the peoples are delusion; Because it is wood cut from the forest, The work of … Continue reading →

The Fourth Betrayal

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on January 22, 2012 by Kelli Jae BaeliFebruary 23, 2012

NOTE: So, in my seeking help when i needed it, for my recent betrayals and abandonments, the counselor i went to see called the next day to inform me she couldn’t see me anymore and for a really stupid reason. I tried to reason with her on the phone, but she had to stand by what she felt was her principals, but which was only LOFTY IDEAS getting in the way of her ability to give the actual care she had sworn to as a medical professional. Finally frustrated beyond words and feeling even worse, i hung up on her. … Continue reading →

Letter to a Battered Heart

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on November 29, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 5, 2013

Open letter to a friend whose heart is battered…. I remember that you were there for me when I was going through a lot and had no one. So I will do my best to be here for you, now. In this life, you have to separate your mental and emotional things, your habits, your beliefs–like laundry. Whites over there, colors over there, delicates there. You can’t throw them all in together or the colors will bleed and what was once pure and white is now sullied. Some things must be kept apart, some things put together, and you always … Continue reading →

Philosophy, Sexual Orientation, Elephants, & Truth

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on February 12, 2011 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 4, 2013

Thought I would share something that got lost in the shuffle a while back: Posted by Kelli Jae Baeli on September 12, 2009 at 8:00pm *from comment thread with Lee…..in attempting a succinct response, I found myself falling into my nature as a writer, and this comment became lengthy. That was a warning for the faint of heart. I cross-posted here, so that someone might be able to read it later, here, if they become overwhelmed with it, there. Smelling salts available.** Lee, thank you so much for your thoughtful comments. I admire philosophers and philosophy majors…it’s fascinating, necessary, but … Continue reading →

Supernatural Completion

I finally ordered the proofs for my 6 volume book, Supernatural Hypocrisy: The Cognitive Dissonance of a God Cosmology. It will be available for the Holiday Shopping season. Volume 1: Cosmology of God & Jesus Volume 2: Cosmology of Christianity Volume 3: Cosmology of the Bible Volume 4: Cosmology of the Dark Side Volume 5: Cosmology of Science Volume 6: Cosmology of Atheism Three years in the making, this is not a project I would like to do very often. Science Heals, Religion Steals

Kelli Jae Baeli Posted on May 21, 2010 by Kelli Jae BaeliMarch 4, 2013

Excerpt from Supernatural Hypocrisy:  The Cognitive Dissonance of a God Cosmology Volume 5: The Cosmology of Science “Science has done more for the development of the Western civilization  in one hundred years than Christianity did in eighteen hundred.” ~John Burroughs   WE ENJOY THE SPOILS OF MODERN SCIENCE and technology which allows us to soar into the clouds and reach any destination in this manner, both quickly and comfortably. Individuals from antiquity must have lamented — and had much time to lament — the laborious tedium of traveling from point to point by foot or by beast. It is no … Continue reading →

Quotes from Kelli Jae Baeli

Those who can, do. Those who can't, write about it.

Politics Quotes

"People feel removed from sexism. 'I'm not a sexist, but I'm not a feminist.' They think there's this fuzzy middle ground. There's no fuzzy middle ground. You either believe that women are people or you don't. It's that simple." (Joss Whedon)

Favorite Quotes

"Atheists are routinely asked how people will know not to rape and murder without religion telling them not to do it, especially a religion that backs up the orders with threats of hell. Believers, listen to me carefully when I say this: When you use this argument, you terrify atheists. We hear you saying that the only thing standing between you and Ted Bundy is a flimsy belief in a supernatural being made up by pre-literate people trying to figure out where the rain came from. This is not very reassuring if you’re trying to argue from a position of moral superiority." ~Amanda Marcotte
